This is the IAB report for the period between IETF 112 and IETF 113. This report presents a summary of activities. More detailed information on many of the topics is also available at https://www.iab.org.

The IAB business calls are open for observation and one of the business calls each month is used for technical discussions only. Appeals
There were no appeals during this reporting period.
Appointments
The IAB is in the process of making an appointment to the Internet Society Board of Trustees. The selected candidate has been confirmed by the IESG, and the name will be released in late April when the full slate of Trustees has been chosen.
In November, the IAB re-appointed Petr Špaček to the ICANN Technical Liaison Group.
In February, the IAB appointed Eliot Lear as the Independent Submissions Editor. Eliot takes over from Adrian Farrel, who decided to step down after four years in the role. The IAB thanks Adrian for his service and welcomes Eliot!
The IAB is currently looking for a qualified volunteer to serve on the ICANN Root Server System Governance Working Group (GWG). If you are willing to be considered or would like to nominate someone else for one of the GWG positions, please send an email message to execd@iab.org and iab-chair@iab.org by 23:59 UTC on Monday, 2022-04-04.
As part of the RFC Editor Model (Version 3), the IAB and IESG are tasked with appointing one chair each to the RFC Series Working Group (RSWG). The IAB and IESG issued a joint call for nominations/volunteers for the RSWG Chairs on 2022-03-14. If you are interested or would like to nominate someone, please send a message with the name and email address of the nominee to execd@iab.org. The nominations deadline is 2022-04-18.
IAB Open Meeting
During IETF 113, the IAB will hold an IAB Open Meeting on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 13:00 Vienna time. The goal of this meeting is to increase interactions with the community in both directions: providing information about and reporting back on technical work done, as well as gathering input about on-going work.

Liaison Report Highlights
- The Multi Stakeholder Platform on ICT Standardisation is up for renewal by the European Commission in May 2022.
- The ICANN Root Server System Advisory Committee (RSSAC) put together a document on “Success criteria for the Root Server governance model“
- IANA reported on the minutes of the IETF-IANA Group’s November meeting.
- The IRTF Chair announced the ANRP awardees for 2022: Sangeetha Abdu Jyothi, Gautam Akiwate, Corrine Cath, Sam Kumar, Bruce Spang, Tushar Swamy, and Daniel Wagner.
- The ICANN Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC) has published SAC113, calling for the ICANN board to ensure a string is identified and reserved for private use, which “must never be delegated.”
- The Root Server System Advisory Committee (RSSAC) liaison reported that the Root Zone Maintainer is seeking feedback from the RSOs on the newly published ZONEMD Deployment Plan.
Technical Programs and Support Groups

The Internet Threat Model (model-t) Program held an interim meeting on December 7, 2021 to review their current documents and discuss the way forward.
The Evolvability, Deployability, & Maintainability (EDM) Program held an interim meeting on February 1, 2022 to review the results of the survey they sent to WG chairs about tools to track interoperability and implementations, and to discuss plans for progressing draft-iab-protocol-maintenance.
The IETF-IANA Group meets once per meeting circle. Meeting minutes are included in the monthly IANA liaison report to the IAB.
In January, the IAB closed the Technical Plenary Planning Program. Its goal was to seek out topics for and plan IETF technical plenary presentations. The IAB is currently not actively organizing technical plenaries on a frequent basis, and therefore the program was closed. However, the IAB is always interested in identifying interesting topics and speakers topics relevant to the IETF’s diverse technologies. If you have a topic or speaker you would like the IAB to consider planning a technical program around, please contact the IAB via iab@iab.org.
The RFC Editor Future Development Program concluded the work on draft-iab-rfcefdp-rfced-model and handed the document to the IAB for progression an Informational RFC on the IAB stream in early February.
Documents and IAB Statements

In December, the IAB published RFC 9170: Long-Term Viability of Protocol Extension Mechanisms. This document explores how regular use of new protocol features can ensure that it remains possible to deploy changes to a protocol.
The IAB adopted a new document for consideration for publication on the IAB stream: draft-iab-path-signals-collaboration-00 (Considerations on Application – Network Collaboration Using Path Signals)
The IAB is in the process of approving draft-iab-rfcefdp-rfced-model after the conclusion of the four weeks community feedback call and consideration of all feedback in coordination with the program chairs, the document editor, and the program itself. On 2022-03-09, the IAB reviewed draft-iab-rfcefdp-rfced-model-12 (RFC Editor Model (Version 3)). Recently draft-iab-rfcefdp-rfced-model-13 was published that incorporates some editorial changes. This document is the work of the RFC Editor Future Development Program and will be approved and published together with three related documents in the the IETF stream: draft-carpenter-rfced-iab-charter (IAB Charter Update for RFC Editor Model), draft-rsalz-2028bis (Entities Involved in the IETF Standards Process), and draft-rosen-rfcefdp-update-2026 (RFC Series Responsibility Change).
There were no new IAB statements.
Workshops and Workshop reports
A new version draft of the workshop report for last September’s IAB workshop on Measuring Network Quality for End-Users has been submitted as draft-iab-mnqeu-report-01.
A draft of the workshop report for last November’s IAB workshop on Analyzing IETF Data (AID) has been submitted as draft-iab-aid-workshop. Niels ten Oever will present this report at the IAB Open meeting on March 24, 2022.
In February, the IAB held a brainstorming session on future IAB workshop topics.

Tommy Pauly and Jiankang Yao serve as the sergeants-at-arms for the architecture-discuss@iab.org mailing list. For program-specific lists, the program chairs act as moderators. The rfc-interest list is moderated by the Temporary RFC Series Project Manager. As for all mailing lists of the IETF, we also expect professional behavior on our mailing lists.
