Cindy Morgan reminded the IAB to fill out the poll to select a time for the IETF 115 BOF Coordination call with the IESG.

Done:
  • 2022-08-10: Cindy Morgan to follow up with Mark Nottingham about whether the current version of draft-nottingham-avoiding-internet-centralization is the one the IAB should review for the discussion about adoption on the IAB stream, and whether he is available to have that discussion at the 2022-09-07 meeting.
  • 2022-08-10: Cindy Morgan to send an e-vote on the ICANN Board Liaison Appointment.
  • 2022-08-10: Cindy Morgan to send an e-vote on the RZERC Appointment.
  • 2022-08-10: Jari Arkko to send a message to the Model-T Program indicating that the IAB is planning to close the Program.

  • 2022-08-24: Wes Hardaker to talk to Warren Kumari and Suzanne Woolf about a technical discussion to give the IAB an overview on the current state of alternate naming spaces (what the activities are and how they relate to each other; who the current players are). 2. draft-iab-mnqeu-report

The IAB approved publication of draft-iab-mnqeu-report-04 as an Informational RFC on the IAB Stream. Cindy Morgan will send the document to the RFC Editor.

3. Model-T Program

Jari Arkko reported that he had not received any feedback from the Model-T list about the message he sent on 2022-08-14 that the IAB was considering closing the Program.

The IAB agreed to close the Model-T Program.

Jari Arkko will draft a closure message that Cindy Morgan will send on behalf of the IAB. The mailing list will be closed.

4. ICANN Root Zone Evolution Review Committee (RZERC) Appointment

Via e-vote, the IAB approved reappointing Tim April to the ICANN Root Zone Evolution Review Committee (RZERC). Cindy Morgan will follow up with Tim and send an announcement.

5. ICANN Board Liaison Appointment

Via e-vote, the IAB approved reappointing Harald Alvestrand as the IETF Liaison to the ICANN Board of Directors. Cindy Morgan will follow up with Harald and send an announcement.

6. M-TEN Workshop Update

Cindy Morgan reported that the call for papers for the M-TEN workshop closed on 2022-08-19, with 19 papers received. The Program Committee will meet on 2022-08-31 to review the papers and discuss invitations.

7. Trade Regulation Rule on Commercial Surveillance and Data Security

The IAB discussed whether they should submit comments on the proposed Trade Regulation Rule on Commercial Surveillance and Data Security.

Mallory Knodel and Jari Arkko will review the proposal and draft a potential IAB response.

8. Future IAB Technical Discussions

The IAB reviewed the list of potential topics for future technical discussions.

The IAB agreed to remove “The Role of Interoperable Applications” from the list, but possibly investigate the topic further in the IAB-ISOC Policy Coordination Group.

A technical discussion on “Data Privacy” led by Tommy Pauly and Mirja Kühlewind was scheduled for 2022-09-28.

A technical discussion on “Different or Same, IP for Internet and Limited Domain” led by Zhenbin Li was scheduled for 2022-10-26.

The IAB discussed what they would like to get out of a technical discussion on an alternate DNS system, and agreed that it would be helpful to get an overview of the current state of alternate naming spaces, what the activities are, how they relate to each other, and who the current players are. Wes Hardaker will follow up with Warren Kumari and Suzanne Woolf to try and put together something on this topic.

Cullen Jennings reported that he is still trying to schedule a speaker on “Identity management for web conferencing and other media apps,” and that he will follow up with Cindy Morgan to schedule this when he has more information.

Lars Eggert noted that there was a presentation from Loon at ACM SIGCOMM that might be of interest to the IAB or IETF as a plenary topic. Lars will send out a link to the video of this session, once it becomes available.

The Next IAB meeting will be on 2022-09-07 at 0700 PDT.
