Call for volunteers or nominations for the IETF Delegate to the ICANN Nominating Committee

5 May 2026, 7 p.m.
The IAB (on behalf of the IETF) appoints a member to the ICANN Nominating Committee (NomCom). Pete Resnick has filled this role for the IETF community for the past two years and is ineligible to continue; the IAB thanks him for his service.

The IAB would therefore like to ask the community for volunteers to serve on the ICANN NomCom. The IAB will appoint one person for a two-year term.

If you are interested in serving on the ICANN NomCom, please send a short e-mail to iab-chair@iab.org and execd@iab.org with your motivation and information concerning your familiarity with the IETF and ICANN. Alternatively, if you know of someone who may be a good fit for this position, please send the name and email address by e-mail to iab-chair@iab.org and execd@iab.org. The IAB is looking for a diverse pool of candidates. The deadline for nominations or volunteers is 23:59 UTC on Tuesday, 2026-06-02.

After asking for community input on the candidates, the IAB will select from the available candidates. The IAB shall take into account candidates' familiarity with ICANN and the IETF (including their roles and processes), though the selected candidate will serve on the ICANN NomCom on personal title.

The ICANN NomCom process itself is governed by the ICANN bylaws; the relevant section can be found in Article 8.

In addition, each NomCom determines a number of its own operational procedures, including the role of the NomCom in recruiting and selecting candidates for ICANN leadership positions. Please see the full NomCom job description for more details.

Based on the experience of previous volunteers, the time commitment is significant. During the main working period from October through June, it can range from one or two subcommittee teleconferences per month, to two or three candidate interview teleconferences per day for a couple of weeks, to multi-day in-person working meetings or candidate assessment meetings. All NomCom delegates should have the ability to travel to and participate in ICANN Public meetings and NomCom meetings when requested.

NOTE: ICANN will cover travel, hotel, and incidental costs for any of the ICANN Public meetings and NomCom in-person meetings under prevailing ICANN travel policy. For more details, please see the IAB Statement on Liaison Compensation.

The ICANN NomCom selects people to fill the following positions:

  • Members of the ICANN Board of Directors
  • Members of the PTI Board of Directors
  • Regional representatives to the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC)
  • Members of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) Council
  • Member of the Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO) Council
